    Iran fires back at Trump’s threat to declare Hormuz a US territory

    TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday (Aug 15) fired again at US President Donald Trump’s claim that he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz part of US territory, saying the essential vitality waterway it has blockaded “will stay Iranian”.

    Trump has repeatedly insisted that the strait, which Tehran successfully closed firstly of the Center East battle in late February, is beneath US management regardless of site visitors remaining throttled.

    “The Strait of Hormuz has been Iranian, is Iranian, and can stay Iranian,” Iranian Deputy Overseas Minister Kazem Gharibabadi mentioned on X.

    “This strait will solely be closed and opened beneath Iran’s command.”

    Trump advised a political rally in New York state on Friday that after the US defeats Iran, “fairly quickly I will be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of america”.

    “It is true,” he added.

    An unnamed White Home official later clarified that Trump was joking, the Wall Road Journal reported.

    Final week, a high Iranian official set out an inventory of circumstances for reopening the strait, together with an finish to the “battle and aggression towards Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq”.

    Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr additionally demanded the top of crippling sanctions, the discharge of frozen property and compensation for wartime injury.
