    DUBAI: Israel’s attack on the Evin Prison in Iran’s capital Tehran final week killed 71 individuals, Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir mentioned on Sunday (Jun 29).

    On the end of an air war with Iran, Israel on Jun 23 struck Tehran’s most infamous jail for political prisoners, in an indication that it was increasing its targets past army and nuclear websites to goal at symbols of Iran’s ruling system.

    “Within the assault on Evin jail, 71 individuals had been martyred together with administrative employees, youth doing their army service, detainees, relations of detainees who had been visiting them and neighbours who lived within the jail’s neighborhood,” Jahangir mentioned in remarks carried on the judiciary’s information outlet Mizan.

    Jahangir had beforehand mentioned that a part of Evin jail’s administrative constructing had been broken within the assault and folks had been killed and injured. The judiciary added that remaining detainees had been transferred to different prisons in Tehran province.

    Evin jail holds quite a few international nationals, together with two French residents detained for 3 years.

    “The strike focusing on Evin jail in Tehran, put our residents Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris in peril. It’s unacceptable,” France’s International Minister Jean-Noel Barrot had mentioned on social media X after the assault.
