    DUBAI: An Iranian gunboat fired at a container ship off the coast of Oman on Wednesday (Apr 22), inflicting harm however no casualties, a British maritime safety company mentioned.

    “The grasp of a container ship reported that the vessel was approached by one IRGC gunboat … that then fired upon the vessel, which has prompted heavy harm to the bridge. No fires or environmental impression reported,” the UK Maritime Commerce Operations centre mentioned.

    It added that the incident came about 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman and all of the crew had been protected.

    In accordance with British maritime safety agency Vanguard Tech, the vessel was crusing beneath a Liberian flag and “had been knowledgeable it had permission to transit the Strait of Hormuz”.

    However Iranian information company Tasnim mentioned the ship had “ignored warnings from Iran’s armed forces”.

    Delivery via the strategic Strait of Hormuz has been closely restricted by Iran for the reason that begin of the warfare with Israel and america, whereas the US navy is implementing a blockade of Iranian ports.

    US President Donald Trump introduced Wednesday that the truce between the 2 nations would be extended after it first took impact on Apr 8.
