King County Assessor John Arthur Wilson has been accused by his former home associate of stalking and harassment. She twice sought restraining orders towards him.

To make certain, such accusations are disturbing.

Wilson can be a candidate for the open King County Government place. Two of Wilson’s opponents, County Councilmembers Claudia Balducci and Girmay Zahilay, joined different elected officers, including Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, in calling for Wilson to resign after the allegations had been the topic of reports studies. That’s a logical response from fellow public officers to such severe allegations.

What’s not logical, although, is for Balducci and Zahilay self-servingly to affix their fellow Metropolitan King County Council members in a vote of no confidence in Wilson. Balducci proposed the no-confidence vote, which is merely symbolic. It provides no weight to their already said disdain for what Wilson is accused of doing.

Apart from, the council doesn’t have the ability to take away Wilson from workplace, one he has held for 10 years. That may be as much as the individuals who put him there; the voters have the precise to file a recall petition.

Nonetheless, Wilson, like all individuals, has the precise to due course of; a proper that public officers, particularly throughout this political local weather, ought to perceive and respect.

Within the eight-person race for County Government many urgent points are earlier than the candidates, together with public security. Voters need candidates who can tout their accomplishments and articulate a imaginative and prescient for the long run, not use their public workplace to hunt benefit over their opponents.

The Seattle Instances editorial board: members are editorial web page editor Kate Riley, Frank A. Blethen, Melissa Davis, Josh Farley, Alex Fryer, Claudia Rowe, Carlton Winfrey and William Okay. Blethen (emeritus).
