    WASHINGTON: Lower United States tariffs on Japanese autos are set to take impact this week, a Commerce Division discover confirmed on Monday (Sep 15), as Washington implements a current commerce pact it had negotiated with Tokyo.

    Beginning Tuesday, Japanese autos coming into the US will face a 15 per cent tariff as an alternative of 27.5 per cent, offering producers some reprieve from President Donald Trump’s contemporary duties this yr.

    Since returning to the presidency in January, Trump has focused particular sectors with tariffs, and imported vehicles and components face a 25 per cent responsibility.

    This dealt a blow to Japanese automakers, for whom the 25 per cent responsibility piled atop an current 2.5 per cent tariff – bringing the general degree to 27.5 per cent.
