Barrot warned that Russia should settle for a ceasefire or face “new sanctions that can exhaust its financial system”, alongside intensified European assist for Ukraine. He added that Macron and Zelenskyy have been in frequent contact, with the Ukrainian chief final visiting Paris on Nov 17.
The talks will happen as Zelenskyy manages political turbulence at residence after dismissing his influential chief of workers Andriy Yermak following a significant anti-corruption raid.
Regardless of the upheaval, Barrot mentioned Zelenskyy retains “full legitimacy to steer Ukraine in direction of peace.”
The conflict, now in its fourth 12 months, started after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
