JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned on Thursday (Could 28) he had directed Israel’s army to take extra of Gaza, initially by seizing 70 per cent of the Palestinian territory, the place the inhabitants is already penned right into a tiny strip of land alongside the coast.

Israel successfully controls an estimated 64 per cent of the tiny coastal Strip, bombarded to ruins by Israel’s two-year army assault that adopted the 2023 Hamas assault on southern Israel.

Underneath an October US-brokered truce that has failed to halt Israeli attacks or secure Hamas’ disarmament, Israeli troops have been meant to withdraw to a “Yellow Line” demarcating the extent of their management. Marked on army maps, that line put Israel accountable for some 53 per cent of Gaza, with Hamas ruling the remaining.

Reuters has reported that Israel has unilaterally moved the concrete blocks marking the Yellow Line on the bottom deeper into Hamas-controlled territory. Maps issued by the army in March confirmed a good larger restricted space that analysts say cordons off round 64 per cent of Gaza‘s territory in whole.

Netanyahu has repeatedly mentioned in public remarks that the army controls greater than 60 per cent of Gaza.

Talking to a convention in a settlement within the occupied West Financial institution, the Israeli chief mentioned much more of Gaza could be taken.

“We have been at fifty, we moved to sixty. My directive is to maneuver to – let’s go step-by-step,” Netanyahu mentioned on Thursday.

“To begin with, seventy. Let’s begin with that. We’re urgent them (Hamas) from all sides. We’ll cope with the remnants.”
