I’ve stood on a busy nook with different residents of our retirement neighborhood holding up “No Kings” indicators. It’s encouraging to listen to the robust assist of our Seattle neighbors as they honk in settlement.

However I got here from Michigan, a purple state. I see those that voted Republican within the 2024 election as not believing that our Structure was at stake. Now I believe that the Democrats must redefine their objectives in a manner that can broaden the tent. I want to see extra emphasis upon the discount of inflation and job progress, and fewer speak about divisive points like abortion and gender. We have to improve income by taxation in order that we will pay down our nationwide debt and decrease the price of medical health insurance. What is required now’s nationwide management within the tremendous artwork of political compromise.

I consider that the “tradition wars” that now we have fought in American society — not less than since 1968 — have fed the MAGA motion. I want to see the “blue states” recapture the middle and assist heal divisions. To borrow the phrases of Andrew Jackson in 1830, “The Union, it have to be preserved!”

    Doris B. Heineman, Seattle
