It stays to be seen whether or not a deal may be reconciled given the declared conflict aims of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who, with US President Donald Trump’s backing, has pledged to get rid of Hamas.

“Israel has been telling us for months now, with phrase and deed, that it doesn’t truly intend to finish the conflict,” Mohamad Elmasry, a political analyst on the Doha Institute for Graduate Research, advised Al Jazeera.

“Barring Hamas leaving Gaza, which isn’t going to occur, Israel is absolutely intent I believe on going again to conflict.”

Hamas says Israel ‘planning to escalate once more’

The negotiations come after Hamas handed over the stays of 4 captives in a single day on Thursday, in change for greater than 600 Palestinian prisoners, within the final deliberate swap of the ceasefire’s first part.

Israel had postponed the discharge of 46 of those prisoners, all ladies and kids, on account of delays in verifying the our bodies of 4 of the captives it obtained.

Additional violating the phrases of the deal, Israeli officers stated they’d not withdraw as deliberate from the Philadelphi Corridor – the lengthy strip of land bordering Egypt. Israel’s navy is meant to start pulling out of the hall on Saturday and end doing so inside eight days.

Hamas official Basem Naim advised Al Jazeera he believes Israel is “planning to escalate once more” regardless of Hamas being “dedicated to the deal”.

“We’ve already performed our duties in response to the deal, and we’re able to proceed implementing the deal,” stated Naim, including the group must be actively concerned in part two negotiations.

The ceasefire, which started on January 19, halted 15 months of conflict that erupted after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault on southern Israel that killed about 1,100 individuals and took greater than 200 captive.
