Bryan Kirschner wrote in Saturday’s op-ed that being rich, he needs to be taxed extra (“Tech made me wealthy, I should be taxed more,” Feb. 14, Opinion). How very noble of him. I’d really feel the identical approach, if I had been assured that the taxes and revenues already collected had been spent properly and effectively by the state of Washington.

Nonetheless, being a one-party state, there are completely zero checks on spending, waste, and fraud. A Republican one-party state would have its points as properly. The dearth of a counterbalance to governance and spending is a recipe for fiscal mayhem. The truth that our main information media has minimal (if any) concentrate on spending points (waste and fraud) definitely exacerbates the issue. “All the pieces is okay right here, simply transfer alongside …”

Backside line: If the state of Washington’s revenues had been spent extra effectively and properly, we might not be having a dialogue relating to the “Millionaires Tax” as it might not be required. A closing remark: Many states are decreasing the tax burdens on residents whereas sustaining crucial providers. I don’t anticipate any type of tax discount to occur right here anytime quickly.
