WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Mar 3) lashed out at Britain and Spain for not totally backing his attack on Iran, as he threatened to finish “all commerce” with Spain.

“I am not pleased with the UK,” Trump stated, as he stated of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer: “This isn’t Winston Churchill that we’re coping with.”

Britain, a steadfast ally of the US all through the 2 world wars and within the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, determined to not be a part of the assault on Iran that Trump launched with Israel on Saturday.

Starmer stated that US fighter jets might use two UK air bases for a “particular and restricted defensive objective” – one in Gloucestershire in western England and the opposite on the joint UK-US Diego Garcia base within the Indian Ocean.

Starmer stated that the US was not authorised to make use of UK bases in Cyprus, one in every of which was struck by an Iranian-made drone.

“It is taken three, 4 days for us to work out the place we are able to land. There would have been rather more handy touchdown there, versus flying many additional hours,” Trump stated in obvious reference to Diego Garcia.

Trump, after a sequence of flip-flops, has criticised Starmer for agreeing to return the Chagos Islands, the place Diego Garcia lies and whose individuals had been expelled by Britain, to Mauritius and as an alternative to lease the bottom.

“I’ll say the UK has been very, very uncooperative with that silly island that they’ve,” stated Trump, who was talking subsequent to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the White Home.
