LONDON: Prime Minister Keir Starmer is anticipated to announce on Sunday (Sep 21) Britain’s recognition of a Palestinian state in a break with long-standing coverage, regardless of stiff opposition from Israel and disapproval from america, the UK’s closest ally.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy confirmed that Starmer would announce his choice in a while Sunday and stated any recognition needs to be seen as a part of a peace course of resulting in an eventual two-state resolution.

Quite a lot of different international locations together with France, Canada, Australia and Belgium are additionally anticipated to formally recognise a Palestinian state this week on the United Nations Normal Meeting in New York.

“Any step to recognise (a Palestinian state) is as a result of we want to hold alive the prospects of a two-state resolution,” Lammy advised Sky Information.

    NO GAZA CEASEFIRE, SAYS LAMMY

Starmer stated in July that Britain would recognise Palestine until Israel reached a ceasefire with Hamas, let extra help into Gaza, made clear there can be no annexation of the West Financial institution, and dedicated to a peace course of delivering a two-state resolution – a Palestinian state co-existing alongside Israel.
