    WASHINGTON: America added dozens of entities to a commerce blacklist on Tuesday (Mar 25), the Commerce Division mentioned, partially to disrupt Beijing’s synthetic intelligence and superior computing capabilities.

    The motion impacts 80 entities from international locations together with China, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, with the division citing their “actions opposite to US nationwide safety and international coverage”.

    These added to the so-called “entity checklist” are restricted from acquiring US gadgets and applied sciences with out authorities authorisation.

    “We won’t enable adversaries to take advantage of American expertise to bolster their very own militaries and threaten American lives,” mentioned US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in a press release.

    The entities focused embrace 11 based mostly in China and one in Taiwan, accused of participating within the improvement of superior AI, supercomputers and high-performance AI chips for China-based customers “with shut ties to the nation’s military-industrial advanced”.

    They embrace the Beijing Academy of Synthetic Intelligence and subsidiaries of Inspur Group.

    Others have been included for “contributions to unsafeguarded nuclear actions” or “ballistic missile applications”.

    The purpose is to stop US applied sciences and items from being misused for actions like high-performance computing, hypersonic missiles and navy plane coaching, famous Below Secretary of Commerce for Trade and Safety Jeffrey Kessler.

    Two entities in Iran and China have been additionally added to the checklist for searching for to acquire US gadgets for Iran’s protection business and drone applications, the Commerce Division mentioned.
