    Venezuela and the Dominican Republic have agreed to work in the direction of restoring relations, which have been severed after the Dominican Republic criticised the re-election of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as fraudulent.

    The 2 international locations agreed on a roadmap for additional talks on “gradual normalisation” of diplomatic ties, in response to a press release from Venezuela’s international ministry on Sunday.

    The Dominican Republic joined dozens of different international locations in saying that they might not recognise Maduro’s 2024 re-election amid widespread allegations of fraud from election observers and Venezuela’s political opposition. These elections have been adopted by a lethal government crackdown on ensuing protests. Venezuela reacted by slicing off diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic.

    Maduro was kidnapped by US forces in a military raid on Venezuela in January. The interim authorities in Caracas, led by interim President Delcy Rodriguez, has pursued renewed engagement with previously estranged companions as half of a bigger realignment with US pursuits within the area.
