    Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says any assault on an individual on the idea of their religion is ‘reprehensible’.

    Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has rejected recommendations that his authorities has been too gradual to denounce Islamophobia following the alleged assault of two Muslim girls at a purchasing centre in Melbourne.

    Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Albanese mentioned any assault on an individual on the idea of their faith was “reprehensible”.

    “I take all assaults on folks on the idea of their religion critically, and they need to all face the complete drive of the legislation,” he mentioned.

    “We’ve appointed a particular envoy on Islamophobia. That’s an vital step ahead. And I’m somebody who celebrates our range and who respects folks, no matter their religion.”

    Albanese made the feedback after some Muslim Australians, together with worldwide cricket participant Usman Khawaja, accused the federal government of not doing sufficient to fight Islamophobia.

    On Tuesday, Khawaja, who was the primary Muslim to play Check cricket for Australia, mentioned the alleged assaults would go unmentioned by Albanese and opposition chief Peter Dutton, and be “swept underneath the rug like all assaults in opposition to the Islamic neighborhood”.

    Khawaja on Wednesday mentioned he appreciated Albanese and Dutton, who branded the assault a “shame,” for “talking up” in regards to the assaults.

    One of many alleged victims, Ealaf al-Esawie, informed native media that the attacker hit her on the face and chest earlier than shoving her to the ground.

    Police in Melbourne mentioned on Wednesday that they had arrested a 31-year-old lady and charged her with assault over the alleged assaults on February 13.
