It’s boating season in Seattle. Perhaps that’s why Mark Zuckerberg has had two of his three huge yachts delivered to city.

The Meta CEO’s $100 million mega yacht, Wingman, has been docked over at Smith Cove, but it’s merely the support ship for his $300 million super-duper yacht, Launchpad, that has been tied up on the west side of Lake Union.

At 390 toes, Launchpad is the size of 4 Mayflowers and is actually vastly extra cozy than the outdated ship that introduced the Pilgrims to Plymouth.

I can admire Zuckerberg’s ardour for boats. I’ve received a ship, too, though it’s precisely 370 toes shorter than his. I’m wondering, although, does the man actually have a love for the ocean? One thing tells me individuals who personal these large private watercraft usually are not simply lured by the possibility to cruise by the San Juans.

Boats as massive as Zuckerberg’s are a press release. They are saying, “My proprietor is the king of the world and he has more cash than you possibly can even comprehend.”

This show of unimaginable wealth in all probability isn’t sitting properly with any of the 1,400 Meta workers on this area who simply received laid off (or the hundreds of people who received fired by Zuckerberg in Might.) They’re scrambling to seek out work in an financial system being taken over by synthetic intelligence and dominated by just a few lucky males who entertain their wealthy and glamorous pals on huge yachts that want different massive yachts to help them.

I might argue that it’s a case of insensitivity and unhealthy style, however, hey, this can be a nation with a billionaire president who places his face on cash and builds ballrooms to glorify himself. So, welcome to the brand new Gilded Age.
