Re: “Former Democratic presidents remember the late Rev. Jesse Jackson during final public tribute” (March 6, Nation):

We watched the funeral ceremony for the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., the nice civil rights chief. Apropos to Jackson’s illustrious profession had been the remembrances provided by three former presidents — Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Invoice Clinton — in addition to former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Their tributes had been elegantly ready and delivered with a respectfulness and statesmanship typical of most nationwide leaders, and standing in stark distinction to the belligerence and divisiveness of speeches and statements by the present president and plenty of of his minions.

Whereas a lot of the Rev. Jackson’s life was devoted to dismantling racism, he by no means wasted any a part of his message by denigrating these he knew to be racists. We’re deeply saddened by the cruelty and callousness of the Trump administration and we hope the higher angels of its members will acquire some traction within the close to future.
