    Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated early on Monday (Sep 1) {that a} suspect has been arrested within the murder of former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy, a criminal offense that shook the war-torn nation.

    “The suspect has given an preliminary testimony,” Zelenskyy stated on the Telegram messaging app. “Pressing investigative actions are at the moment underway to ascertain all of the circumstances of this homicide.”

    Parubiy, 54, was shot lifeless within the western metropolis of Lviv on Saturday in what Zelenskiy referred to as “a horrific homicide” and a “matter of safety in a rustic at struggle”.

    Parubiy had been parliamentary speaker from April 2016 to August 2019, and was one of many leaders of protests in 2013 to 2014 calling for nearer ties with the European Union.

    “I thank legislation enforcement for his or her swift and coordinated work. All of the circumstances of this horrific homicide have to be uncovered,” Zelenskyy stated.

    The alleged shooter was detained in a single day within the Khmelnytskyi area in western Ukraine, Minister of Inner Affairs Ihor Klymenko stated on Telegram.
