High US diplomat endorses settlement to combine Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces into state establishments.

America has welcomed Syria’s agreement to integrate the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into state institutions.

On Monday, Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi mentioned that they had struck a deal to merge “all civil and army establishments in northeastern Syria” into the nationwide administration, together with an airport and oil and gasoline fields.

The settlement has been seen as one of the vital important political developments within the nation for the reason that fall of longtime President Bashar al-Assad by the hands of Syrian opposition forces led by al-Sharaa in December.

The accord comes at a important juncture for Damascus because it grapples with the fallout of a wave of violence that erupted final week within the heartland of the Alawite minority.

The deal features a ceasefire in all of Syria, SDF assist in combating pro-Assad fighters, and an affirmation that the Kurdish persons are integral to Syria and have a proper to citizenship and assured constitutional rights.

Whereas discussions about integrating the SDF into the Syrian state had been ongoing for the reason that fall of al-Assad, efforts to achieve an settlement have been hampered by perceptions that the group was much less dedicated to opposing the deposed regime than different opposition forces.

The US partnered with the SDF in its battle towards the ISIL (ISIS) armed group, whose so-called caliphate in Syria was overthrown in 2019.

Washington’s assist for the SDF has positioned a pressure on its relations with Turkiye, which views the group as an extension of the Kurdish nationalist Kurdistan Employees’ Get together, which Ankara considers a “terrorist” organisation.
